federal courthouseThis is the first post in a series of articles which will discuss the handling of federal criminal charges in our area. I have previously discussed the certain aspects of handling such cases. Links to my prior articles are below. I am using this series to discuss how the Court may deal with specific types of cases. As I have discussed in prior articles, not all attorneys are licensed to practice in Federal Court and even fewer do so on a regular basis. Retaining experienced counsel can be vital to your defense. If you or a family member are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a Peoria federal criminal defense lawyer.

I will be addressing a number of topics over my coming articles. Subjects which I will analyze include:

  • The handling of drug charges in Federal Court
  • Cases which involve financial crimes or fraud
  • Matters involving sex trafficking or transporting minors across state lines
  • Computer-related or cyber offenses
  • Cases occurring on federal property or involving federal employees

I have chosen to address these topics due to the fact that such matters are commonly charged by the US Government. First, drug charges are likely to be brought in Federal Court if the matter crossed a state line into Illinois. Also, trafficking in certain substances will often result in federal charges. Second, financial and cyber crimes will often fall within a financial statute, and US Attorneys can be aggressive in prosecuting such matters. Third, for obvious reasons, the government is quick to prosecute sex-related offenses which involve minors. Finally, many individuals can be surprised to learn that they face federal charges simply because the act occurred on US Government land or involved a government employee.

A key point I will be making in each of these articles is to retain an attorney who is experienced in handling such cases. Doing so can be an important towards ensuring that your rights are fully protected. I am a Peoria lawyer who is licensed to handle matters in Federal Court. I have spent much of my career protecting the rights of the accused and I believe that everyone is entitled to effective representation.
