This is the first post in a series of articles which will discuss the handling of cases which are classified as Class “A” misdemeanors by the state of Illinois. I have previously discussed handling Class “A” misdemeanors as a general matter. My upcoming series will expand upon that discussion by looking at the various offenses that fall within this category. The goal of this series is to provide information which will help people to better understand their situation. It is also my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of an attorney. If you or a family member are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a Peoria criminal defense lawyer.
I will be addressing a number of topics over my coming articles. Issues which I will discuss include:
- Defending against aggravated assault charges
- Cases involving criminal damage to property
- Charges of criminal trespass
- Charges involving interfering with the reporting of domestic violence
- Matters involving the violation of a protection order
I will be addressing each of these types of cases for a number of reasons. First, there are a number of defenses which can apply in various cases. These may include search and seizure issues, statements which were wrongfully obtained by law enforcement, etc. Second, many of these charges are often brought in conjunction with higher level offenses. Cases involving the violation of a protection order, for example, can be paired with a felony charge if the defendant was unlawfully in possession of a firearm. Third, it is crucial that you retain an attorney as soon as possible as any criminal conviction carries the potential for jail time and other lifelong consequences.
