judge looking at motherThis article is being written to conclude and recap my series on dealing with Class 4 felonies in Peoria and other Illinois areas. I felt it necessary to write on this topic as many individuals are unaware of the serious nature of such charges. This can result in one not taking the case as seriously as they should. The goal of my recent articles, therefore, was to provide information which will assist an individual with understanding their overall situation. It has also been my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of an attorney. If you or a loved one have been arrested then contact my office today to speak with a criminal defense lawyer.

I addressed several topics over my recent articles. Issues which I analyzed included the following:

I decided to address these particular topics for several reasons. First, many individuals are surprised that they are facing felony charges. This is especially true in situations involving damages to a victim of less than $300. The fact of the matter, however, is that the state of Illinois has opted to punish certain conduct rather severely. Second, while one may receive probation, whether or not to grant a term of supervision is within the discretion of the Trial Judge. Third, when one has never interacted with the criminal justice system before then they may easily be overwhelmed to learn that they are facing a prison sentence. Finally, knowing what to expect from the trial process is important to understanding the strategy which one’s attorney is proposing.

A key point that I stressed in each of these articles is that one should contact an attorney as soon as possible if they or a loved one have been arrested. A felony conviction can result in a term of incarceration, the lifetime loss of firearm rights, and an inability to pass a background check. These consequences are on top of the social stigma which an individual can very well face. As a Peoria criminal defense lawyer, I am able to assist with such matters. If you have been charged with a felony then contact my office today to schedule an initial consultation. We look forward to speaking with you.
