Parents with JudgeThis is the first post in a series of articles which will discuss the process of defending against Class “2” felony charges in Peoria and other central Illinois areas. I have previously discussed the handling of Class “2 felonies as a general matter. This series will be expanding upon that discussion by addressing the particular types of charges that fall under this offense classification. The goal of my coming articles is to provide information which people can then apply to their particular circumstances. It is also my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a criminal defense attorney. If you or a family member are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.

I will address a number of topics over my coming articles. These topics will include:

  • Defending against felony drug crimes
  • Charges involving aggravated domestic battery
  • Cases involving a reckless homicide inside a school zone or construction zone

I have chosen to address these topics for a number of reasons. First, drug trafficking can result in Class “2” charges. Such matters may very well involve search and seizure issues which can lead to a dismissal of the charges. Second, some make the mistake of thinking that domestic violence or battery is a private matter between two individuals. Such is not the case and a defendant can face a prison sentence if the offensive conduct is extreme enough to be considered “aggravated.” Finally, the reckless operation of a vehicle can, unfortunately, result in the unintended death of an individual. This can also result in a prison sentence.

One point I will be stressing in each of these articles is the need to contact an attorney immediately if you or a family member have been arrested. If you are convicted of a felony then you can face lifelong consequences beyond a term of incarceration. These consequences can include not being allowed to possess a firearm and not being able to pass a background check. As a Peoria criminal defense lawyer, I am familiar with the handling of such matters. My office prides itself on providing the highest level of service and we look forward to being of assistance.
