This is the first post in a series which will discuss defending against child endangerment charges in Peoria and other Illinois areas. I previously discussed several aspects of child endangerment charges. This series is being written as a follow up to my prior articles so that I may address several questions which often arise in such matters. It is important to understand that prosecutors take such matters very seriously and retaining an attorney as soon as possible can be vital to your defense. If you or a family member are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a criminal defense lawyer.
I will address multiple topics over my coming articles. Issues which I will be analyzing include:
- Dealing with a first offense for child endangerment
- Understanding what happens after one is charged
- The possibility of jail for a DUI child endangerment
- Defending against first-degree charges
I have chosen to address these particular topics for multiple reasons. First, many individuals are completely unsure of what to expect when they are dealing with the criminal justice system for the first time. Knowing what to expect from the process can help one to ask more informed questions when they are selecting an attorney. This leads into my second point, that one must understand the process which they are facing. Any criminal case will be divided into several stages and will often involve multiple hearings. Knowing what to expect from this process can help one to manage their expectations. Third, such charges will often result in incarceration when they are the result of a DUI. Finally, the Court will take first-degree charges very seriously, as will the prosecution.
A key point that I will stress in each of these articles is that it is important to contact an attorney as soon as possible if you or a loved one have been charged with a crime. Both the Courts and prosecution show little patience for those facing child endangerment charges and the threat of incarceration can be very real. I am a Peoria criminal defense lawyer who understands the serious nature of such charges. Contact my office online or by telephone to schedule an initial consultation. We look forward to speaking with you.
