gavel with American flagThis article is being written to conclude and recap my series on defending against Illinois charges which involve violent crimes. I considered it important to write on this topic due to the fact that most individuals are unsure as to how they should proceed after they have been arrested. This is especially true in matters which involve accusations of violence. I wrote this series with the goal of providing information which will help people to better understand their situation. It has also been my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a criminal defense attorney. If you find yourself in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.

I addressed a number of topics over my recent articles. Issues which I analyzed included the following:

I addressed these particular topics for several reasons. First, some may be surprised at the extent to which prosecutors pursue cases which involve violent acts. Judges also tend to show little leniency in such matters. Second, if law enforcement violated the Fourth Amendment then it may be possible to have evidence excluded from the Court’s proceedings. Third, it is common for one event to lead to numerous charges, which can come as a surprise to defendants. Fourth, probation is generally not available to those who have been convicted of a violent crime. There are instances where one may face charges, and receive a lesser conviction however. Finally, retaining an experienced attorney is an important step towards ensuring that your case is handled correctly.

A key point that I stressed in each of these article is that counsel should be retained immediately if you or a loved one have been charged. It is important that you speak with counsel sooner, and not later, so that your representative has as much time as possible to begin building a defense on your behalf. I am a former prosecutor who has devoted his legal practice to protecting the rights of the accused. I understand the importance of taking immediate action in such matters. If you are facing violent felony charges then contact my office online or by telephone to speak with a Peoria criminal defense lawyer. I look forward to speaking with you.
